SCHOOL TOURS

SCHOOL TOURS

When you bring an Opera for the Young (OFTY) performance to your school, you’re helping build a life-long love for the arts in your students.

Our professional cast is available to entertain and inform, right in your school’s gym. Each OFTY production is created especially for the young. It is sung in English, features students alongside our professionals, and lasts 45 minutes.

WEEKS AHEAD OF THE SHOW

You will receive access to:

      1. Tutorial and Cast Recordings
      2. Student Handbook
      3. Teachers’ Guide
      4. Libretto
      5. Evaluation Forms

THE DAY OF THE SHOW

Opera for the Young’s teaching artists (4 opera singers and 1 pianist) will arrive approximately 1.25 hours prior to the show. They unload the tour van – with all set pieces, costumes and props – and set the stage! All we need is a clear, clean and performance ready gymnasium or cafeteria.

ONE HOUR BEFORE THE SHOW

Students in the on-stage (and stage-side) choruses will rehearse with OFTY performers. Together, they will work on the music, run lines, and learn the stage movement and choreography.

THE SHOW

The performance will last 45 minutes and will be followed by a 5 minute Q&A led by our cast. After Q&A, there will be time for pictures, and then our cast will take down the set and pack up the touring van in about 15 minutes.

AFTER THE SHOW

Even after the tour van has left, the Opera for the Young experience can live on. Students have the opportunity to use their critical thinking skills to evaluate the performance, and we also provide suggested post performance activities for art and classroom teachers to use with their students.

EXPAND THE OFTY EXPERIENCE

Consider booking OFTY’S teaching artists for CLASS CHATS, an informal residency with individual classes. For an additional fee, performers discuss and demonstrate:

  • WHY do we perform opera?
  • WHO/WHAT/WHERE/HOW/WHEN are the components of operatic production – what do you see and how did it get there?
  • YOUR BODY IS YOUR INSTRUMENT- being an opera singer is challenging and fun!
